The Zoo started as a storehouse for the living gifts the Emperor received from envoys of far away countries. Soon, the scientists discovered the storehouse and came there to study the exotic animals. Explorers and curiosists took home more exotic animals and placed them in the collection. This way, the collection expanded, and the original storehouse was too small for all animals. More buildings were made, large cages, aquaria, pastures and artifical mountains.
The zoo was too large for the orginal spot and was partially build in a public park. The citizend, mad that their park was taken, organized and got their park back: the privat collection of the Emperor became a public collection. The Emperor made it a good deal: the collection was now public, but the public has to pay half an Assar to enter the park and see it.
Other cities had also animal collections and by breeding and swapping, all collections expanded, got more variety and became all public attractions. This way, exotic creatures became common in Daleth, and didn't have to be imported any more. However, the Zoo still accepts the gifts of exotic animals they have not in their collection. The collection also features stuffed animals and skeletons of animals.
