Horant (Marèzische Springgeit, Cinfer Springgeit) Mountain animal Where: high mountain ridges, Cinfer, Verboden Dal The Horant is an animal the size of a large goat (5 feet from feet to antlers). It lives in the high mountains (Witte Bergen, Zwarte Bergen) and may visit the valleys in winter. A somewhat larger (Cinfer Springgeit) variety can be found in Cinfer Shire, and Het Verboden Dal. It eats the small plants that grow on the rocks and it vegetarian. It is the prey of wolves and Red Hruks. To escape from the hunters, the Horant has legs like springs. Hip and knee are normal, but the feet is so long and strong it looks like a third part of the leg, and the heel looks like a second knee. There are only two bones in the feet. What is called the feet of the Horant are actually its toes. These are long and strong and spread for a better grip on the rocks. The leg can absorb the powers that are involved by jumping, and the Horant can jump from very high altitudes down without breaking a bone. The animals are very peaceful, and the Cinfer variety is kept as cattle. The females give milk that is a bit bitter, but very good for consumption. The skin is furry and warm, with light colours from snow white to grey and beige. On breast and neck the animals have in winter longer hair, that can be used as wool. The tail is short but strong, used to help the animal stay in balance during a jump. The antlers are short and grow new every year. They look like horns, growing straight up and bending at the top The horant can jump distances over 20 paces, and more if it jumps down. Some Sudzi say the race originates from flying goats, and that some Horants still have the ability to fly. This is a legend, but a leaping Horant is an impressing sight nonetheless. Related topics: |
