Jersine

One of the most deadly animals in the lands east of Daleth is the jersinë. It looks harmless and can even be delicious, but is also the cause of the most painfull deaths in the region.

The adult jersinë is only 5 thumb long creature, boneless, with a boney feet that has grown fixed to the surface the jersinë lives on. This animal has lungs to breath with, it dies when kept under water. With no eyes and no mouth, it looks like a plant, a slimey, sluggish plant. The two shells are opened when the jersinë is hungry, between the rims of the opened shells a film of slime is formed. All insects (especially mürq) that fly into the slime will be absorbed in the jersinë. Larger animals and parts of them can be bitten by the sharp, toothed rims. While the jersinë eats, the shells are closed tightly.

The adolecent jersinë is already pregnant, but the young jersinë keep groing in the womb until adulthood. The the womb grows until it is like a balloon on the jersinë, about a quarter of the size of the full grown animal. When the babies are ripe, the shells open and the womb explodes. The babies, thousands of them, are carried on the wind to other places.
Of course, many babies stick with their slimey bodies onto the reef of jersinë, but others are carried away much further, and when they land, they are able to slide into a save place.
After a few menoth, they are ripe to mate and crawl closer to each other. They form eight arrows each to shoot each other with, and with the arrows, the eggs are shot into the slimey skin of their kin. A ninth arrow is shot into the surface they mate on and is the prime form of the boney foot. In the slimey skin of the mating partner, the eggs will ripe in the womb that has been formed by the left over point of the arrow in combination with the slime. A jersinë that has given birth can get pregnant again is a young jersinë is close enough, but the arrows never reform.
When a jersinë dies, the shells remain. A colony of jersinë will form a reef in the plains. Such reefs will catch many baby jersinë that are carried on the air from other reefs.
The remains of the womb, after the explosion, might form a rough and metallic kind of pearl. This usually happens in a dry period with lots of food. The prey that is caught does not get the chance to be consumed, and clutters at the remains of the womb. The citin of the insects is made into pearl by the slime of the jersinë.

Jersinë

The living babies that are carried over the eastern plains can be taken to the realms of other animals. When swallowed, the jersinë will anchor their foot inside the lungs of the host. From their, they will shoot their eggs into the lungs and thus into the host. The eggs will feed on the veins and crawl through the body. This causes extreme pain and will lead to a horrible dead.
However, adult jersinë are a delicous meal, when drowned in wine and then grilled. Favorite side dishes are fúchëpék and the popular vegetable the Óshmiirdhet. When harvesting jersinë, one should be careful that the womb is not showing, or that the womb is cut of before drowing. Who eats a jersinë womb will eat the babies and will die. It’s a popular way to commit suicide in Dernian Landis.

Most of the knowledhe about the jersinë comes from Dernian Landis, where scientists have found a way to use glass filled tubes to take a closer look at the smaller parts of the animal.
