FIOD
Fiscale Inlichtingen en Opsporings Dienst

Started as the detectives from the internal revenue service, the FIOD became more and more important after the Double Dutch War. Eager to get more taxes into the treasury, they terrorize the inhabitants of Holland and are not afraid to use ultra-violence.
The Men from FIOD are dressed in a nice black or blue suit and are armed with a Samsonite-suitcase. Their black clogs have expensive leather soles, so they can sneak upon you unnoticed.

Jajem
(pronounced yah-yem) Jajem used to be another word for Gin. Like the Inuit are supposed to have twenty words for snow, the Dutch have at least twenty words for Gin. During the years after the Great Flood, this Amsterdam-jiddish became the most popular.

Klûnen
(pronounced clu:n'n, never mind trying, only the Dutch can get it right) Walking over land with ice skates still tied to your clogs. Not very good for the blades of the skates, though.

Nederwiet
(pronounced Netherweed) For some reason, the cannabis sativa that was grown in the Netherlands mutated from ordinary skunk to high quality hash known to the world as nederwiet. The THC rating in it is higher than in any other kind of cannabis, and in the early twenty-first century it already came close to being a "hard drug" (which is more addicting than the so-called soft drugs, which were legal). During the Double Dutch War the plants mutated again, especially those on the fields close to the Mokum Meltdown. Now they have somewhat other effects than ganja, with a lower THC rate than pre-war nederwiet.

Snert
A very, very solid pea-soup, served with a smoked saucage in it, and bits of pork (fat, knee), and some vegetables. Other traditional items served with snert are buttered ryebread with bacon. The soup is at it's best when a fork can stand in it, free from any other support.

Zipper
Someone who has had implanted pockets into his/her skin. These body pockets can be closed with a barely visible zip-fly. Of course, it depends on the place where the pocket is made how much things can be inserted.
