Arhym: where heroes rest in peace

The settlement of Arhym in east-Tarnov has only 500 inhabitants, but is nevertheless famous. Inhabitants claim the settlement has over 5000 people, 4500 of them dead and buried on the battlefield (“Slagveld”).
It is the battle between the free Weslanan and the Imperial troops that put this place solid in the mind of many Dalethians. Arhym is synonymous with dead and decay. The fields surrounding the buildings of Arhym are covered in bones rusty armour and broken weapons. Not much grows there.

The wars for Weslanan independence (from 1460 to 1560 A.F.O.) have had a major influence on Arhym. The earlier buildings were destroyed, and the settlement got deserted. The Arhymians fled to Tarnov and, if they were on the other side, to Ciniz and Ildritz. Ciniz has still a Arhymian Quarter, but the original inhabitants of the quarter have mixed too much with the Cinizians to speak of a Arhymian community now.

Arhym

The people of Arhym live of sheep. They herd the sheep on the west bank of the Cin river and the battlefields where nothing else will grow. The wool is manufactured in Arhym, cloth and cheese are famous produce from Arhym. The sheepskin (leather) is manufactured in Unvar.
Some merchants have put up a trade in memorabilia of War and sell skulls, swords and other items found on the battlefield. The battlefield has become a place of worship for those who want to keep the independence of the Weslanan in their memories.

Arhym has temples for Phyarx and Gräins. The Temple of Phyarx is build by the famous architect Maniro Spindauns, but critics say it has been ‘overdone’: “The impressive frescoes have nothing to do with the reality, bestiality of the war, and show only the courage of heroes that never lived.”

After the War, Arhym is nothing but another sleepy settlement in de agricultural surroundings of the Weslanan.

The Grave of Molik

Right outside Arhym, in the west, is a large hill with the name ‘Moliks Grave’. The old god is said to be buried here. On the hill, nothing grows; the earth is lifeless, animals do not come here and people claim to get ill if they come near the hill. In dark, stormy nights, strange lights can be seen around the Grave of Molik.
Priests do not confirm this is the actual site where Molik was buried. Some even claim Molik is not dead at all. Others will tell you the Grave is in fact a Portal to another world, where Molik hides during his annual “death”.
“Quite a shame the place is haunted,” the duchess of Tarnov used to say, “It is such a nice place for picnics. At least, there are no ants around.”
