Glimmer: Last Stronghold of the Poorters
The small town of Glimmer is near the west bank of the Kristalmeer, at a ford in the river Glimmer. The place is well-know because of the controversial Battle of Glimmer. After the place -a stronghold for the Poorters- had been burnt down in 871, the place never really recovered from the destruction.
The place used to be a stop on the way from Topomeir to Zol-Marekat, nothing more than the ford, an inn, a blacksmiths workshop, and some farmers. The place got its name from the nearby brook, that had many glimmering stones - at least at dawn, when Fon beamed over Kristalmeer and the fast-flowing brook. Adventurers came to Glimmer to search for valuable stones in the brook. They found some, but they turned out to be ordinary stones as soon as they were taken out of the water. Some people still try to sell Glimmer-stones to the public, in bottles filled with water to make them at least look like valuable stones or ore. The saying as solid as Glimmer Gold comes from this town, the meaning of the saying is of course something fake.
The place is still an important stop on the main trade route between Topomeir and Zol-Marekat. The inhabitants are mostly Poorters now. They have a harbour for trade across Kristalmeer. Inns and taverns still make out a large deal of the local economy, so does the respected hospital and its nearby spa. Many members of the upper class of Daleth and Overveer spend their time in Glimmer. It is more relaxed than Lazulameir, and though it is quite primitive, it is better connected to nature than any other spa. They will praise the Naglani touch to the place, even though the Naglani never did more to the place than to burn it down in the Battle of Glimmer.
