Battle of Glimmer

The Battle of Glimmer was one of the more destructive battles in the war against the Naglani.

Glimmer, a small place on the bank of Kristalmeer (Kristal Lake), was taken by the Poorters in 869 (AFO) and one of their main strongholds to fight the Naglani in the northeast of Daleth.

On an early morning in 871 , the scouts of the Poorters found a well hidden Aarol-egg in the woods near Glimmer. The leader ordered that the egg should be destroyed, because it was most probable an Naglani-egg and the way it was hidden made him think of a Naglan family in high standing that placed the egg there.

According to legend, the leader had been right. It was the egg of the thyngfyrst’s daughter, and the child that would have been born from the egg would have been the next thyngfyrst in line. Now that the child had been destroyed, the thyngfyrst called his army and destroyed Glimmer. Over 80 buildings were burnt to the ground, and 294 persons were killed, among them over 80% Poorters.

Modern historian argue about the facts. The remains of the egg, that have been exhibited in Glimmer and, later, in Ildritz, are not the remains of an Aarol-egg or a Naglani-egg. They say traces of yellow paint have been found on the remains. They suspect that the Naglani had placed the egg on an easy to find place, and planned to attack as soon as the Poorters had destroyed the egg, as they sure would do during the war.
It is suggested that several eggs had been placed into the woods surrounding Glimmer, so that the Poorters eventually must stumble upon the egg, destroy it and then face the so-called revenge of the Naglani.

Naglani say there never had been an egg. They even deny there has been a battle in Glimmer. The stronghold has been burnt down, they claim, because some Poorter did not take care of the cooking fire. The nearest Naglani-battalion headed to Glimmer to the rescue and lost over 60 lives in the flames.

Even today, the Battle of Glimmer is not often talked about in a mixed Poorter/Naglani company.
