Rise and fall of the Dalethian Empire

When the first Kingdom of Daleth was established, it was only a small realm near the mining town of Razn’Oth. The realm expanded and included the whole of the Nordan valley soon, and the capital moved to Ildritz, being more central. With the Naglani in the northeast and the Sudzi in the south, the Kings of Daleth looked toward the west for further expansion.
The almost empty land behind the White Mountains proved to be hard to get, the wild woods offering no real source for solid economics. This land in the West or Weslanan (originally: Westislandan, Sakran to the Naglani) became the private property of the Kings of Daleth and was used as a hunting area.

After the peace treaty with the Naglani, including the infamous deal with the Sudzi (from now, the Sudzi were regarded as being Naglan property, while most of their southern realm became property of the Poorters), the Empire of Daleth was founded in 1045 AFO. Emperor Marint I claimed to rule over the valley of the Nordan River, over the Weslanan, over the icy lands in the North, over De Taycha where the Naglani lived, over the valley of the Kristal River. He also claimed to be the King of Fanigawi, which had been part of the Naglani-realms, even though the Naglani never ruled over Fanigawi and/or Maristriumarka.

As an reaction the Poorters who had fought against the Naglani and the Sudzi in the south, founded the Empire of Salamandran, with Hveitsvar as its capital. The very idea was to build a strong nation that could withstand the expansion of the powerful Dalethian Empire. They tried to resurrect the legendary Realm of the Giants in the South and guarded the important places of De Wegwijzer near Vameir, and the places where the Portal was supposed to be (namely Isauls, but the Swamps of Gamoor were also mentioned as being worthwhile).

However, in 1176 AFO Escolar II made his son and heir Escolar III marry to the only heir of Salamandran, Princess Cezilk. Thus, the Empire of Salamandran fell into the hands of the Dalethian crown, and the United Empires were founded.
In its heydays, during the reign of Kisverin I, the Empire reached from the icy lands in the North, to Diwàn in Thirun in the east, to the first “primitive” villages of Luban along the Wyz River, the almost uninhabited Weslanan and included the lands of Fanigawi and Maristriumarka and the Roverseiland. However, the borders of the realm never were really settled with the neighbours, and parts of the east just were “deserted” while in fact the nomads of Lãsu’tyq lived there without ever seeing a Dalethian.

But soon, the United Empires fell apart. Salamandran felt not being protected by the Empire, and said their request for help and their share of the national income had been ignored. The unity of the Empires came to an end in 1213 AFO, and war became regular along the borders of the two former empires. Salamandran had lost its imperial family and crowned a king instead.
The trade in Diwàn made the claims on the town being Dalethian questionable, more and more people from the Dernian Landis settled there and occasionally the nomads pulled up their tents near the market square. In the West, the Weslanan were settled and turned out to be rich of resources, so they declared themselves independent from the Emperor (however, they still were part of the Empire). In 1396 AFO, after a bloody revolution, the lands across the Kristal River, known as Overveer, became independent and founded their capital in the old city of Altheizar. They crowned a King, only to murder him later. After that, Overveer has been a republic ever since.

Today, the Former United Empires are an issue in the Ildritzer salons. Some dream of a new unity, others detest it. A dream of a real large realm will stay in the minds of these Dalethians, conquering the continent is what they want, rule not over the former unity, but also set claims on Dernian Landis, Luban, and Fanigawi, including the unclaimed territories of Lãsu’tyq and Wythviz. Among those of Cinizian blood, the call for claiming other continents as well can be heard, but very faint.

Until now, any outbound expansion has been stopped by internal conflicts. Of course, there have been wars and battles against Overveer every now and then. But the Weslanan and its rebellious rulers have rejected the Emperor and are not really part of the Empire - they claim to be a Kingdom without a King (there is a throne in Dohn Castle, but is stays empty).
Both Sudzi and Naglani try to expand their autonomy in their territories. Important places like Zol-Marekat and Baurghs are still not in the strong hands of the Empire and are run in a state of regulated anarchy.

The recent conflict against the New Poorters however, has strengthened the bond between the several people of Daleth. In their war against the alien army, they got together and harvested understanding between each other. The following economic growth lead to better trade treaties with the other realms, being Dernian Landis, Luban and Fanigawi.
