Wirrwud

The Wirrwud is a plant that grows on dry, sunny mountain sides, in high altitudes. The plant is an amber kind of red, and has yellow flowers in spring. The plant has no leaves, but a more or less solid long body, that lays down on the ground. Its roots have a large surface to cover, and from these roots come the actual "plants". The roots can cover a surface of about 10 square feet.
The plants can grow very quick, and people say they have seen the plants moving. The "wirr" in the name comes probably from "wyrm", a worm, which the plants resembles. Worm-like it crawls over the soil.
It is said that people who eat the plant swallow the worm, that after eating crawls into the brain of those people and makes them crazy. The juices in the plant do have indeed a psychic effect on the human brain, but it is not quite clear what kind of effect it has. Some use the wirrwud as aphrodisiac, others to relax, and some to get courage and strength.
Tests made it clear that the wirrwud plant can survive a long time on its own without being attached to the roots. It might move in sunlight as well, due to warmth changes, and the name "worm" for this plant is not too crazy after all.
