Vindels Avenger

The 'flower' of Vindels Avenger.

In the southern parts of Salamandran, Vindels Avenger is dreaded. The plant, which is more common in the vast hot plains of Wythviz, sometimes drifts in the wind towards Salamandran. One example has been found as far north as Topomeir.

The seeds of Vindels Avenger are like beans and contain water. These seeds are a relief for those who wander the desert, looking for water. The seeds have the reddish colour of the Wythviz plains and are difficult to find.
The seeds grow into a small bush. The “flowers” are a light kind of green, the plant itself is brownish when dry and dark green when fed. The “flowers” are not real flowers in the sense that they do not have a function in the spreading of seeds or the attraction of insects. They are more like vases that gather water for a prosperous growth of the plant.
The bush grows on one thin stem.
When the plant is full grown, the stem breaks and the bush is free to float. The plant has made some other developments: it has grown thorns, about a thumb long, which are highly poisonous. It does not blossom anymore. The seeds now grow inside the plant, in a kind of bag. When the plant floats in the wind and hits the ground real hard, the bag bursts and the seeds are spread.
As a very beautiful side effect, the young plant can be cut from its stem and been put into water to flourish. The plant will “blossom” every time when put in water, and dry away when it is put out of the water. However, this way it will never be full grown. The young Vindels Avengers were wanted for the “magic”-stalls in foors, but now the magic has faded away, only young children are amazed by the “magic” of this plant.

Travellers of Wythviz are very scared to meet Vindels Avenger. They gave the plant its name, after a legend in which a wizard stole the winds from Wythviz, and Vindel sent the Avenger to take revenge of the wizard.
