Master Elaud Berins
(1801 - )

Elaud Berins was born in Ildritz in 1801, son of a teacher and a chambermaid. He was a bright pupil and his father fed him with knowledge. Young Elaud went to school and in 1816 he was invited to study at the University of Ildritz. He refused the invitation and travelled two years throughout Daleth.
In 1818 he did go to University, and being a student he soon became involved in the resistance against the straight and inhuman rules of the Emperor. He went to Ciniz to fight on the side of Yzabrân.
His contacts with Ciniz helped him to develop his ideas. The University of Ciniz became his second home while he was still a student in Ildritz. But is was not knowledge Elaud was after, it was not power or wealth. It was a desire to make things, to be an inventor like Daleth had never known. And so, Elaud build the weirdest things, some of them long forgotten since, but others where welcomed with loud applause, such as his improvement of the Garatheins.

Master Elaud is very popular in salons, but he seldom visits them. He still works in his Ildritzer house on his inventions. That the life of an inventor can be very hard, is to see on his face. He survived several small disasters in his own home, that has been burnt down a couple of times.
He once stated that his survival was his greatest merit, the study of medicine and health was the best he ever did. But not all his patients were happy to have met him - some died during the operation. Charged for murder, Elaud spend some menoth in jail. He didn’t mind, because he found the place relaxed enough to invent some brilliant ideas about the more alchemical side of science.

Master Elaud is also a rational philosopher:
“If you have a vase of marbles, and you go looking for a blue marble, what are your chances to find one in the vase? If there are a big hundred marbles in the vase, does your chance to pick a blue one out of it increase of decrease with every pick?
Let me put it in this way: If there are only two marbles left in the vase, and you haven’t yet picked out one that is blue, and the first one of the last two you pick out is not blue either, what are the chances that the last one is blue?
Of course the last one should be blue, no matter what. If it is not blue, why did you look for blue marbles in this vase anyway?”

Inventions:
  • The Pulling Machine
  • The Improved Garatheins
  • The Hissing Carriage
  • The function of the Portals (hypothesis)
