Prayer to Aaser
The water god Aaser is very popular along the Dalethian coast. Of course, there are many temples for him, and beautiful public fountains that are made in respect for the god.
Especially fishermen have small idols of Aaser on a home-altar. These can be splendid pieces of art, in other cases they are rough idols. Any way, they show Aaser with his mouth open, have a small holder for water, and are decorated with plants and animals from the sea. Larger idols can be fish bowls. The picture is an idol from Nest on Roverseiland.
Family members of fishermen say that they can look in the water of the idol to see if their loved ones are safe at sea. In order to see better into the water, the bottom of the water holder is usually painted black. They say a special prayer to work this magic scrying.
aaser awater awaak zee de zee
waar water waar schuwt min beê
aaser ontwaakt nim min lieve meê
