UT calculating system

Development of the calculating system in Lãsu’tyq

In order to make the system understandable, all symbols have been transliterated to normal letters.

The counting symbols of the Lãsu’tyq system have developed from ancient times when the nomads had a need to count their animals. Their basic system was based on the value of the animals, not the amount of them. Thus, the symbol u stand for any amount of animals that equals 20 dogs, 16 goats and so on (see table). To make it understandable what kind of animal it is, the symbol has gotten an extra sign, here written in capitals. Du stands for 20 dogs, Su is one slave. Du and Su are in the written language of Lãsu’tyq different symbols, but the u is always part of it.
