Boonzaaien is very popular among children. It is a pretty easy game for two men, played with a board and 73 beans (bonen) or pebbles. The board has on top six small holes on each two player sides and one large hole on each of the other two sides. Six beans are placed in each small hole. One of the players takes the left-over bean in one hand, and the other player has to guess in which hand. If the guess is correct, the player may start the game, if not, the opponent may start. The player takes all beans from one small hole on his/her side of the board and puts one bean in the next hole, one in the hole after that, and so on, also placing beans in the larger holes, and in all holes of the opponent, all in sunwise order, one by one. If the last bean is put in the large box right to the player, another small hole must be emptied. If the last bean of a turn is not placed in the right hand large hole, it is the turn for the opponent to empty a small hole from his/her side. When all beans are placed in the large holes, the beans pro hole are counted. The player with most beans in the large hole on his/her right side has won the game. Sometimes the game is played without a board, in that case the holes are carved in the ground. Some boards are beautifully decorated, and beans are replaced with gems or silver beans, all according to the wealth of the game owner. Kids play this game with nuts (or berries), the nuts are eaten after the game - the winner is the one with most nuts.
