Language on these pages I have lots of difficulties writing English and this mess may be regarded to as Interenglish, the language used on the Internet as English. I am from Holland and therefore, Dutch is my native tongue. All information on Daleth was originally in Dutch, and now and then Dutch words will pop up on this site. However, Dutch is not widely spread among the internetusers so I had to choose another language (and the Dutch are not really intrested in this kind of stuff, I noticed - too sober? Or too stoned?).Russian is a little too difficult for me, and I do have problems putting and reading cyrillic characters on the www. French, a beautiful language, is also pretty difficult, and not common enough (apart from all francophonic countries, salut a tout le monde!). Both languages had their influence on the names of people and places in Daleth, and the grammar of Russian and French helped me with more than one language for Daleth. French highly influenced the Dutch language and some French words might be found in my texts, especially when writing about the life in the Imperial Court. The language for these pages had to be German or English. German is much closer to Dutch than English and I dont feel comfortable writing English, but on the other hand side, German takes me too long to write flawless, I have to look up every word in the dictonary to make sure I know the correct genus of it (but I have the feeling I get better at it). So after a lot of thinking, I decided the information had to be in (British) English. However, the long story I am writing stays in Dutch. Right now, I am teaching myself Got(h)ic. It was no option to make these pages in Gotic, but there are some pages in this long gone language on the net. I used Gotic as the main source for the language of the Naglani. The language of Dernian Landis is based on the Albanian language. For the Luban language, I used some ancient languages of Arabia and Africa, but more the grammar than the words and their meaning. If you look close enough, you might notice what other languages I plundered to spice my world up with. |
