The Ballad of Ummerwee

Behold sailor, woe is under thee!
Below the waves, my lord,
Lays the city of Ummerwee
The temples, houses and the fort
Have all drowned into the sea

You ask sailor, what this once was?
Yesterday golden grains grew here
And cows crowded the green grass
The people here knew love nor fear
Their godless hearts a heavy stone mass

Doom drowned it, lowered land and mood,
Floods flushed the land; murdered men
Destroying all but a few good
Please sail away now you still can,
The silent sea’s still wanting its food...
