Pondering Navigation

The navigation in Daleth has a peculiar form. It is like the witch of ways has taken you somewhere, and you are lost within a world you do not know. It is not that this "chaos" is without reason, it is not designed to nag the visitors of Daleth. To make you understand why I have chosen this strange way of sorting information, I have written these lines.

A long time ago, when the Internet did not exist, I wanted to make a book out of Daleth. Some kind of travel guide, like the "Lonely Planet" or something, a collection of things I wanted others to know about Daleth. But not all information could be captured within a travel guide, and the amount of "Appendices" was bigger than the travel guide itself. An encyclopaedia did not work out either, because the mere alphabetical order was not really appealing. And it would be difficult to put new items in it (I did have nothing more than a mechanical typewriter).

HTML, or more, Hypertext was just the thing I was always looking for. It would interconnect -say, hyperlink- one or more texts that somehow seemed to belong together. There is no straight way to read hypertext, you can start anywhere, you can stop anywhere, and it does not matter if parts are skipped. The reader gets the full freedom of reading. In a novel, this would not work out, but in a world, it does. It is more or less like real life:
You walk the streets of a city, and take any turn you want. Turn back, left, right, stand still to think about what you have seen. Enter a building and explore it. Or take a subway train to the outskirts, missing the parts between the inner city and the suburbs. You are free to go wherever you want to go.

In order to give some hints to where to start, I made the Tourguide, which is like taking a guided tour along the highlights of the place. You can sneak off any time you want and explore on your own. You can return to the Tourguide if you are lost in the information.

If you return to the site, and you know what you want, you can directly go there by picking the topic out of the Encyclopaedia. From the topic you pick, you can once again set off wandering in the world.

The main reason I made my navigation into a "chaos" is to let you explore this world yourself. Take you hiking boots and set off into these unknown realms. There is more to discover than you can see at first glance... It is an adventure on its own, a mystery lays out there to be unveiled...
